This pattern teaches how to make a miniature baby dragon. This pattern is designed around my Bawnimals, aka small spherical animals that you just can’t help but bawww at! This pattern is designed with as little sewing as possible, but can be a pretty difficult to master due to some specialized stitches like the Spiked Bobble Stitch used for the horns, nose, and tail. I suggest trying out the mini frog pattern first to get a general idea of the techniques used in this pattern.

04Adding the Face

Attach the teeth first by pulling the tail ends through 2 adjacent stitches in the corners of the lip (Rnd 3 overhang). Double knot on the inside and cut short.

Add safety eyes. To add eyes into the mbo stitches from Rnd 2, first, insert a hook between the stitches on either the left or right of the center. Twist the hook to separate the stitches and leave a hole where you can insert the back of a 6mm or 8mm safety eye. Lock onto the back on the inside. There are a few ways to do this to make your dragon looking different directions, so test a few out before locking it in place.

05Body (cont'd)

Rnd 8: sc 1, sbo 1, sc 4, working into the inc from Rnd 4 (two Rnds up) bo 1,

sc 1, working into the st from Rnd 5 (one Rnd up) bo 1,

sc 3, working into the st from Rnd 5 (one Rnd up) bo 1,

sc 1, working into the inc from Rnd 4 (two Rnds up) bo 1,

sc 3 (18)

Attach wings onto the back by pulling through 2 adjacent stitches vertically 1 Rnd under the horns on the back. Double knot on the inside and cut short.

Rnd 9: [sc 1, dec 1] 6 times (12)

Rnd 10: dec in each (6)

Stuff fully. Add 2 more mini magnets to the bottom (make sure they're flipped correctly!)

Cut the yarn and sew closed.

  1. This is great, but I’d like to see you release the specifics for more bawnimals – cow, possum, elephant, etc. All the ones shown in your videos and photos. It’s frustrating seeing them with no directions to make them.

Having live streamers ONLY vote to choose what you’re making is not helpful for those of us who don’t have 3 hours to sit around waiting for the next row’s/round’s instruction to eke out between chit chat.

    Please just publish the patterns.

    • If you have the bawnimal patterns bought or if you have a clubcrochet subscription you can actually make most of the bawnimals Louie shows in the livestreams! I believe the possum is just a mouse with slightly different ears, and for the cow you could use the dragon ears oriented in a different way! The sky’s the limit, really! (Also, when Louie is making the bawnimals on stream, he usually doesn’t write the patterns down, unless it’s a pattern designing stream.)
