Overview

In this we’ll be crocheting macaw parrot secret agents! With a remove-able head, a magnetic butt, and some incredibly colorful wings, this amigurumi crochet pattern may be the most complicated birb yet, but is also the most beautiful!

Wings

Make 1 Right and 1 Left

[Starting in Color A]
Magic loop leaving a long end

Row 1

sc 3 in the magic loop (3)

[Change to Color B]
Make sure to work around the tail ends as you go.

Row 2

turn, ch 2, hdc 2 (inc) in each st around (6)

[Change to Color C]
Make sure to work around the tail ends as you go.

Row 3R

turn, [ch 3, slst 1] 3 times, slst in last 3 sts (6 slsts)

Row 3L

turn, ch 1, slst 3, [ch 3, slst 1] 3 times (6 slsts)

Use the Color A tail end from the beginning and the Color C tail end closest to the wing’s connecting point to sew onto the body. See video for detailed instructions.

Ch 1, cut the yarn, and pull through. Use the two tail ends to sew onto the body before you sew closed. Hide the rest of the tail ends from color changes.

This next part can be kinda tough with color changes, but looks so cool! You can instead crochet in all Color C for simplicity, use the video tutorial for advanced instructions.

Working into the magic loop, sc 1, hdc 1, dc 1, tr 1, mp 1, ch 2, slst 1,

(10 not including chs, mp, and slsts)

Cut the yarn, and pull through. Don’t ch.
Use the two Color C ends to sew the tail onto the butt.
Hide any loose ends.

Step 1

Skip 2 chs, pull tight to make a point, slst in 3rd ch

Step 2

Ch 2, pull tight to make a point, slst in same ch as step 1.

Step 3

Ch 2, pull tight to make a point, slst in same ch as step 1.

Ch 1, cut the yarn, and pull through.
Use the two tail ends to sew onto the body after Rnd 10.

Birb Beak

[All in Black]
Optional (only make if you want the removable macaw head)

hdc 1 in the 3rd ch from the hook.
Cut the yarn, ch 1 and pull through.

Macaw Beak

[All in White]
Magic loop

Row 1

Working into the magic loop, sc 1, hdc 1, dc 1, mp 1, dc 1, hdc 1, sc 1

Cut the yarn, and pull through. Don’t ch. Sew over the Bobble Stitch on the head (Rnd 5) using the two tail ends.

In the following Rnds, we’ll be changing to White for the face, and using Black for a mini bobble stitch (aka mbo) in the center.

To help clear it up in text, any underlined stitches in White and the italicized bold mbo stitch in the center in Black.

To make the head attached to the body instead of
a secret Birb underneath, continue from Rnd 6 on
the Body, working in the unused BLO from Rnd 10 above.

To make the head separate, slst 1, cut the yarn, pull through and hide the end.

*Skip the following if you made the head attached. Sew on the Birb Beak in Rnd 4 using the tail ends into st 3 and 5. Add the eyes 1 st away from the beak, into sts 2 and 6.

Using the tail end pull through the very center of the head and cut close to create a little tuft of hair at the top.*

Sew together. Start by sewing on the wings onto the side of the body into Rnd 8. Sew the tail onto the back into Rnd 9. Sew on the feet into Rnd 10.

Rnd 11

Stuff fully, add in a magnet before stuffing closed so that
your birb can attach to metal!

To make your birb “pooping,” use a long strand of white yarn with knots on both ends pulled through the Birb’s body, through the head, and hidden under the fake head.
Pull the end coming from the butt to make him poop!
