Press the tail flat horizontally, we’ll be crocheting into both sides at the same time to close off the tail. Line it up so the next st is even with the last st worked in Rnd 24 and work into both sts. Continue across the row making sure that you insert your hook through the st on the front half and the corresponding st on the back half.
p = Picot (ch 3, slst in first ch made)
Rnd 25: ch 1, {dc, p, dc}, sc, slst 2, sc, {dc, p, dc} (10 individual st making up the tail shape)
Cut and pull through. Hide the end in the tail.
03Fins
[All in Grey]
Magic loop
Rnd 1: sc 6 in the magic loop (6)
Rnd 2: sc in each st (6)
Rnd 3: sc 2, inc 2, sc 2 (8)
Rnd 4: sc 2, invdec 2, sc 2 (6)
Press the fin flat so the next st lines up with last st worked and work the next row through both halves of the fin to crochet it closed.
Rnd 5: ch 1, sc 3 (3)
Cut the yarn, ch 1, and pull through.
04Assembly
1. Attach the fins along Rnds 12 – 15 on either side of the body with the bottom of the fin curved towards the snout.
2. Dugongs' eyes are quite sunken in, so using a strand of grey yarn and your tapestry needle, make some small stitches back and forth next to the eyes and pull them slightly inward.
3. For the nostrils use a strand of black yarn and make 2 small horizontal lines 1 st wide between Rnds 2 – 3 about 2 st apart and centered on the snout.
