Club Crochet® is seeking a part-time web designer to join our crafty team! We are a small but mighty team striving to make crochet accessible for everyone. The Club Crochet® website is home to 300+ unique amigurumi patterns and kits for beginner-to-expert crocheters. Many people learn to crochet for the first time using our patterns and tutorials, which bring us immense pride and joy. We are looking for like-minded creative crochet enthusiasts to join the growing Club Crochet® team!

As a web designer at Club Crochet®, you will be responsible for envisioning and creating compelling and responsive cross-platform websites, mobile apps and digital interfaces optimised for various screen sizes and operating systems. You’ll work with the Founder/CEO and Operations Manager to plan features and create mockups, as well as ensure site reliability by performing maintenance and fixing bugs as necessary. Ideal candidates are able to blend creative skills with the technicalities of web development. 

Duties/Responsibilities:

Website Design and Development

  • Create visual assets like landing pages, websites, etc.
    • Create responsive templates for desktops, laptops, mobile devices and tablets.
    • Design and implement website layouts, logos and branding in alignment with the brand values and target audience.
  • Work closely with the Founder/CEO and Operations Manager to create and execute design plans.
    • Translate design concepts into visually pleasing and highly functional web pages and components.
    • Help the company achieve its product vision and meet its marketing goals through website functionality and design.
  • Website Maintenance
    • Keep tools and services up to date
    • Ensure site interoperability with third party sites and tools by responding to necessary changes 
    • Maintain the web presence of related Club Crochet® brands

User Experience

  • Design and develop UIs and UXs for Club Crochet®’s websites and apps, focusing on clarity, usability, and visual appeal.
    • Build navigation-friendly wireframes, websites and mock-ups that are usable, persuasive and visually enticing.
    • Curate aesthetically pleasing, user-friendly graphics for Club Crochet® site and applications.
  • Propose and execute changes to website based on user feedback in a timely manner.
    • Troubleshoot and test website on regular basis and fix bugs as they arise.
    • Identify areas of improvement for user experience.
    • Develop and implement strategies for website performance improvement.
    • Familiarity with webpage accessibility guidelines 

Market Research

  • Suggest and execute a cohesive visual brand strategy for the company’s website, social media channels and other digital assets.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry standards and trends in website design, particularly craft-related sites. 
Required Skills/Qualifications:
  • A passion for fiber arts – ideally crochet – and an active member of the crafting community.
  • Proven experience in web design, with a strong portfolio demonstrating skills and experience.
  • Proficiency with PHP,  HTML/CSS and JavaScript languages.
  • Familiarity working with WordPress and plugins.
  • Strong understanding of layout design and usability principles for websites and apps.
  • Experience with responsive design, UI/UX interface designs and user experience design principles.
  • A creative thinker with excellent visual communication skills and computer adeptness.
  • A responsible self-starter and problem-solver who takes pride and ownership in their work.
  • Strong attention to detail, consistency, and a keen eye for design.
  • Ability to manage time well and work on multiple projects simultaneously to meet overlapping deadlines.
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
Nice to Have Skills/Experience:
  • Customer service experience.
  • Strong understanding of color theory and typography.
  • Experience working remotely.
  • Knowledge working with WooCommerce, Stripe, and PayPal.
  • Practical knowledge of different designing tools, such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, etc.
Hours/Pay:
  • Pay: $30 per hour
  • Part-time Employee, max 20 hours per week
    • Potential to extend hours 
  • Fully remote work 
  • Flexible work hours, but must be able to attend regular meetings during standard business hours in Pacific Time Zone
    • We are only able to hire staff who live in the United States at this time
  • No health/dental/vision package available for part-time employees
