Witch Amigurumi Pod Person

In this tutorial, we’ll be crocheting a Witch amigurumi pod puppet. This pattern is made all in one piece using color changes, but you will have to sew on the hat and cape. To make this a bit easier, I’m also including this new amigurumi color chart that I created to help better understand and explain color changes for your amigurumi!

01Color Chart Key

Border = Stitch Type

Look at the border of the square to signify the stitch used

Brackets = Where to work the stitch

Boxes connected by brackets signify where that stitch is worked into (ie. worked into the same st)

Color Key

Look at the colors in the square to determine the color of the stitch.

Solid bordered squares with two colors require a half color change. Make the first pull through, completing the previous stitch, with the first color (Red), and next with the second color (Green).

The number above of the box is the stitch number in that round (ie. 10 = stitch #10).

Rnd 9: sc in each st (18)

Rnd 10: bo 1, sc 7, bo 1, sc 9 (18)

Adding the Face: Start by adding the eyes. If you want them to be white try painting them with some finger nail polish, white out, or use a bullion knot with white yarn. Both eyes go in Rnd 7 The right eye goes in stitch 2, and the left goes in stitch 6. Try to get the eye into the center of the stitch, it helps to use a darning needle poked through and twisted to create space to more easily fit the eye into.

You can use an extra strand of Green yarn sewn from behind the eyes to create bags under the eyes or an angry emotion. I usually do purple yarn over the eye for some eye shadow.

(49:26) Sew on the hat around the head using the Back Loops from Rnd 12 so the brim covers the face slightly.

For more help on customizing eyes see this tutorial.

Rnd 11: sc in each st (18)

Rnd 12: sc 2, bo 1, sc 4, bo 1, sc 10 (18)

Sewing together: Sew the Cape between Rnd 8 and 9 by going from the top of the left arm, across the back and to the other arm.

Rnd 13: [sc 1, dec 1] repeat 6 times (12)

To make your amigurumi into a finger puppet check out this tutorial.

Rnd 14: dec in each st (6)

Cut the yarn, and pull through. Stuff fully sew closed.

05Broom

I suggest viewing the video for this part because it’s relatively confusing.

Using a brown strand of yarn held over a cut stick, fold over and over making a series of loops. When you feel the broom is full enough, using the tail of the yarn strand, wrap around the top of the loops. Tie the two ends together and sew into the wraps you just made. Cut all the loops at the bottom of the broom.

06Cauldron

[All in Black]
Magic loop

Rnd 1: sc 6 into a magic loop (3)

Rnd 2: inc in each st (12)

Rnd 3: [sc 3, inc] x 3 (15)

Rnds 4-5: sc in each st (15)

Rnd 6: slst in each st (15)

Cut the yarn, pull through and hide the ends. Add green yarn to the inside for the filling.
